Like the vast majority of those born in the '70s in a European country that was in the shadow of communism, I spent my childhood and adolescence between gray and cold concrete buildings. I remember the periods when the electricity was cut off and we had to go up to floor by floor in complete darkness. I remember playing "hide-and-seek" with friends through the cold, smelly stairs of apartment blocks. I remember the lack of concern for the aesthetics of the streets, the cables knotted at the top of the high voltage poles. I still remember those times very well and I am convinced that many of those born at that time do. This painting is about an image I have in mind when I remember my childhood spent among the concrete buildings in Romania in the 70s and 80s.
